They already have sock-puppet accounts on popular forums which are used to steer the direction of a discussion. But they will also persistently attack anyone who expresses an opinion against the official line.

If a grass roots effort to launch a news network funded by private citizens without any ties to big business or government control were to appear online could it succeed ? Maybe...
Commercials restricted to local markets approved by citizen elected management. Fund raising similar to PBS allowing proceeds to pay for employees at a rate that would reflect market share of membership funding. I believe management and employees should be given short term renewable contracts based upon success of the network could be the answer to keep everyone honest and on the ball. True News Network, the stories that matter. Truth matters, not just the stuff MSM wants us to hear.

Well, it will be voluntary, you see. And those that do not volunteer will find themselves audited and subjected to fines, audits, or threats of license suspensions on the basis of totally unrelated infractions in the weeks that follow. Thus crumbles the Republic...

The last remaining true journalists won't like this one little bit... it sure sounds like it could be abused.
The number of media outlets are under a couple corps... they're tied to ratings and advertising... and now a sunshine friendly govt does this shady move? I hope people realize how important non-biased, fact based journalism is before it's too late... and it's never too late... until it is.

Newt Gingrich mentioned this on CNN tonight . . . briefly. Where is the outcry from the press? Absent that, one might ask if they're not already bought and paid for.

What does it say about our government when I'm less surprised that this is happening, than I'm surprised that we're hearing about it. What a wonderful thing transparency is. It lets us know that the press is censored and state run.

That would have been bad enough if it would not have gotten even worse. After the people trusted them with those they ended up owning healthcare and running guns.
