I attribute this to Texas culture.
Everyone yammers about freedom, but many are secretly happy to enforce their will on others as long as it's done with a smile and USING the words of liberty.

I do agree.
But small town, back woods law loves to protect their ways. This is why too much decentralization can be a bad thing for liberty. You find the same things in Mexico where federal authority is weak, they will put a gun up your butt for a laugh.

That is the Texan conundrum they like their freedom, but many small towns that claim to represent the American ideal can't, as a whole tolerate outsiders who express their freedom. The problem is that the rhetoric and the Texan culture are at odds.

I have no issues with YOU ALL TEXANS expressing your freedom. I do have issues though when people express themselves and are wrong in the process. I have issues when the Pa explains to this guy what it was like 20 years ago only to have him try and portray it as occurring today.
To me its not helpful, and actually hurts those who correctly express their freedoms.

I do mean you all Texans. I just know that I have stopped in many small Texas towns and felt like I was being judged, criticized and profiled. I tend to find Texan women my favorite part of the culture, they seem to represent the part of Texas culture that is fine and warm. The male culture there is macho compared to other American locales, and with machismo comes things like making your own rules. That is exactly why Mexico is such a hellish place for justice and equality, where machismo reigns, you will find a higher incidence of "rule bending", in some ways the sissified cities of the US have a better chance of being treated better by the cops. The LAPD are very by the book, but they are very tightly sprung which will cause them to over-react and interpret smaller things as larger threats. That is the difference I've noticed between the two. LAPD will beat you like a street gang, Texas cops will pop their gun as a first resort.

I understand what you are saying.. However, the manner in which one idiot cop, or idiotic driver, acts does not mean they all act in that manner. To assume they do is no better than assuming all cops from one area profile. I agree with the comment on Texan women...
Not so much about LAPD... what they did to be very by the book resembles a story one would read about coming from a drug cartel out of Mexico.
As for situations involving firearms... both states border Mexico, with more incidents of violence occurring on the Texas section. At least from what I have seen. It might have something to do with then number of drug highways that run thru Texas as opposed to California.
Just an opinion...
Also, I am not Texan..

Wow, that video is powerful. These people are a disgrace. He needs to escalate this story as far as it will go. Take that video to highest criminal profile attorney you can find. Get everyone involved sheriff, mayor, governor, senator, news agencies, anyone who'll listen. Appeal and set a motion to the circuit court, as these so called officials of this district court are clearly a corrupt mob organization. Sue under the RICO act. Nail them all and summons them to court the chief, cops, judge, prosecutor the whole lot of them. There is no such thing as one cockroach. You got to get them all.

-- Copping an attitude back just surrenders the moral high ground that should be required 24/7 by those in uniform and displays a TOTAL lack of professionalism. And is PETTY beyond reproach
-- Freedom of speech shall not be infringed... i guess the part after that in the bill of rights detailing 'unless by police' must have been missed or doesn't exist
-- Lying while in a position of power is among the most detestable and despicable acts. anyone who would do so needs to be fired, blackballed and financially ruined for life, left to beg on a street corner for life.
-- And, overall impeding someone's right to travel freely is an afront to freedom.
And EVERYONE knows the system is corrupt or 'screwed up' yet there are those that PERPETUATE it. and profit off of it at the expense of others.. that is lacking in honor and integrity on its face value.
to take the position that the system is not corrupt is naive at the least and would bring into question IQ. Or, dishonest at the very least and would be an insult completely.
